I’d like to offer a few tips as we enter into summer, in order to maintain your beautiful and water efficient landscape. First, I would recommend evaluating the quantity, and frequency of watering both on your lawn, and your landscape plants. In the early summer, watering requirements aren’t as high as those experienced in the heat of the late summer. You can back down your watering time/frequency, until you see the first indicators of stress, i.e. droopy leaves or a bluish/silver tinge to the grass, then you can bump the time back up in small increments, just enough to relieve these symptoms. This way you know that you are watering enough to keep your plants out of stress, but not more than they need. You will also be conserving water, and saving money too. Another good idea would be to do a general walk through of your plant material. Pruning of any remaining winter kill will improve plants appearance, and a season specific fertilization can boost your plants growth, and blooming on your flowering shrubs and perennials.
