Old Town Oasis

Fort Collins, Colorado

June 5th, 2015

This home was built from scratch on an old lot in Old Town Fort Collins. An existing house was scraped to make room for this modern-rustic house. We were hired to design and install all the elements outside the home. The objective was to create a landscape that would enhance the features of the home, while creating privacy and eliminating the multitude of neighborhood noises. The stone courtyard walls were constructed to provide some separation from the city sidewalk and close neighbors, but also caused us to get creative with the drainage. All the rain water inside the walls is collected in a series of trench drains and catch basins, and piped under the walls and city sidewalk to the street. A contemporary concrete slab water feature was designed to help reduce the neighborhood noise, and provide an amazing visual from their kitchen windows and doors. The 7' long gas fire pit constructed to take the edge off of cool nights, and a built-in bench and planter makes this courtyard one-of-a-kind. The owners love their Komado Joe Grill, so we created an entire built-in cooking space around the egg shaped grill. Walk through the custom built rustic door to the back yard, and take a journey through an entirely new landscape experience. Concrete pavers lead the way to a large patio and elevated lounge covered by a custom built shade structure. The large water feature has 3 distinct water falls and plenty of water to keep the Koi fish happy. The entire property is lit at night with LED landscape lights to provide safety, as well as a stunning view from inside and out when the sun goes down.
